Dozier Linder

Dozier W. Linder, 91, of West Fourth Avenue, died Thursday afternoon, Oct. 25, 2007, at the U.S. Veterans' Administration Medical Center in Salisbury. He had been in declining health for several years. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, West Third Avenue, by Dr. Ray Howell and the Rev. Tommy Wilson. He was born Jan. 12, 1916, in Spartanburg County, S.C., to Alton and Claude Linder. He graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1934 and attended Clemson College and Wofford College. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943 to 1945 and was a prisoner of war in Germany. He was employed with the textile industry for more than 60 years. He worked for Erlanger Mills, Frank Ix Company and Patton Enterprises in Lexington and Kellett Enterprises in Greenville, S.C. He retired in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Helen McDade Linder; a son, Larry (Ellen) Linder of Lexington; and two daughters, Martha (Dan) McKinney of Little Switzerland and Ellen (Robert) Hill of Harrisonburg, Va.; two grandsons, Alex McKinney of Greensboro and Patrick Linder of Riverside, Calif.; four granddaughters, Margot (Todd) Thompson of Lexington, S.C., Megan (Christopher) Carroll of Waynesboro, Va., Laura (Cal) Menzies of Charlotte and Jessica Hill of Carrboro; and one great-granddaughter, Olivia Thompson. The family will receive friends at home. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 436, Lexington, NC 27293.
