Dr. Antony Roy Shoaf, 80, beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and scientist passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Atrium Health Wake-Forest Baptist Lexington Medical Center.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3 pm. Sunday, August 20th at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Lexington, NC by Rev. Angela Powell. The family will see friends 2:15 -2:45 pm prior to the service. There will be a private (family only) burial on Monday, August 21st .

Born July 8, 1943, in Salisbury, NC, he was the son of late Roy Pluto Shoaf and Lois Pope Shoaf. He attended Boyden High School in Salisbury, NC, followed by Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, NC and attended Tulane for his Master's and Doctorate Degrees in Chemistry via a grant from the Department of Defense. Tony’s areas of expertise include Biochemistry, Toxicology and Nanotechnology. His work resulted in the award of 8 patents and the discovery of the carcinogenic agent in Agent Orange. He was employed by Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC for 12 yrs. prior to opening his own business, Shoaf Scientific Consultants with his wife Cynthia in 1997.
Antony was a loyal member of Sons of the American Revolution, Salisbury Chapter, the American Chemical Society and AAAS.
His stepchildren and grandchildren referred to him “Poppy” and enjoyed the stories and time together on the farm and could always count on an old fashion hayride behind his favorite tractor on Thanksgiving Day. These were wonderful times and will always be remembered.
Survivors include his wife Cynthia Rivers Shoaf, three children, five stepchildren, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, an aunt, eight cousins and several nieces and nephews.
