Dr. Kenneth Michael Petersen, 61, of Lexington, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at High Point Regional Hospital after a sudden illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Dr. Petersen was born in Queens, N.Y., on June 16, 1949, to Fred William Petersen and Mildred Geyer Petersen. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., and did his residency at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. He had served the Lexington community for over 30 years as a general surgeon at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara DeLuca Petersen of the home; sons, Joseph Petersen and wife Deborah of Atlanta; Jeffrey Petersen and wife Gretchen of Raleigh; daughter Jenna Hammons and husband Kevin of Chapel Hill; one grandchild, Alexander Matthew Petersen; his mother of Fort Mill, S.C.; sister Diane Hines of Stanley; and brother Dr. Mark Petersen and wife Fran of Gilboa, N.Y.
