Dr. Lloyd Dermot Lohr, 89, of Davidson County, passed away peacefully at his home and surrounded by family on Sunday morning, March 8, 2026.

A casual Celebration of Life to honor Dr. Lohr will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 3:00 in the afternoon, at Holland Brooks event venue, 206 E. Third Ave. Lexington, NC 27292, with Rev. Eric Disher speaking.

A reception will follow at the same location with the family receiving friends from 4:00 – 7:00 in the evening.

Dr. Lohr was born on June 6, 1936, in Charleston, SC, to the late Dermot Lohr and Blanche Grimes Lohr. After graduating high school, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned his MD in 1961. After a 2-year internship in pathology and general surgery, he joined the US Naval School of Aviation Medicine serving active duty from 1964-1966 leaving as Lt. Commander and serving as a flight surgeon with the 2nd Marine Air Wing. After completing residency at UNC Hospitals June 6, 1970, he moved to Lexington and began a 50-year career by opening Lexington Clinic for Women. He was joined by his cousin, Dr. Samuel R. Harris in 1974 and they practiced together until Dr. Harris's retirement.

During his career, he served as Chief of Staff at Lexington Memorial Hospital for many years and was honored with many awards including "Best Resident Teacher". "Marquis Who's Who Top Doctor", and "Marquis Who's Who Top Professional". He was also awarded the "Continental Who's Who" as a trusted gynecologist for over 50 years of service and the prestigious "Order of the Long Leaf Pine" in 2021, which is the highest civilian honor awarded by the Governor to individuals with 30+ years' service or extraordinary contributions to the state.

His patients praised him for this bedside manner, his caring and professionalism, and his overall personality. His casual appearance in blue jeans and cowboy boots and his calming demeanor set his patients at ease.

Dr. Lohr enjoyed life on Granny's Farm where his Angus cattle and Arabian and Quarter Horses grazed the pastures and crops such as corn, soybeans, and hay grew in the fields. He was a rancher at heart and a doctor by trade. He welcomed all to enjoy and experience his little piece of heaven and enjoy making something from the land. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, especially for the benefit of things such as Hospice of Davidson County. Horseback riding, camping, big game hunting, cooking and entertaining, water and snow skiing were also ways that he spent his time outside of the medical practice. He also served for 50 years as a dedicated member of the Kiwanis Club of Lexington. No grass was going to grow under his feet! He believed in working hard and playing hard and he did just that!

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Sarah Jo Queen, of Waynesville.

Left to carry on his legacy are his wife of 34 years Patricia Howell Lohr, of the home; children, Sharon Long (John), of Lexington, Wesley Andrew Lohr, of Charlotte, Meredith Lohr Hedrick (Garrett), of Cornelius, and Adrian Swaim (Mary Ann Mattox), of Lexington; brother, Jacob Andrew Lohr (Missy), of Tallahassee; grandchildren, Gavin and Grant Wolverton; and cousin, business partner, and close friend, Dr. Samuel R. Harris and his family. The Lohr family is very thankful for caretakers, Erin Hicks, Tina Everhart, Christine Troutman, Tyanna LeBeau, and special family friend Wende Everhart.
