Boyce Coolidge "Duke" Byerly, 82, of Lakeview Church Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lakeview Baptist Church, where he was a member, by the Revs. David Wooten and Buster Pigg. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Byerly was born March 16, 1925, in Davidson County to James William Byerly and Annie Leonard Byerly. He was a former machine operator at Linwood Veneer Company. At his church, he was a member of the pulpit committee and an usher. He was also a former cemetery committee member. He was married to Ruth Elliott Byerly, who preceded him in death in 1992. Also preceding him in death were brothers John Byerly, Henry O. "Ben" Byerly and William "Bill" Byerly and sisters Grace Cope, Liddie Miller, Lucy Jacobs, Esther Berrier and Opalene Weaver.
Surviving are his wife, Mavis Strickland Byerly of the home; sons James Byerly and Ruth J. Byerly, and Charles Byerly and his wife, Mary, all of Linwood; grandchildren Dana Byerly Holloman of Louisburg, Lisa Byerly of Greensboro and Amy Peck of Linwood; great-granddaughter Ragan Holloman; and sisters Mary Hanes, Sadie Hampton and Lila Childress, all of Linwood.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home.
