Ernest Grady Rhodes,Jr., age 87, of Lexington passed away Friday night (October 14, 2011)at Hinkle Hospice House. A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday (October 18, 2011) at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, Lexington with Rev. David Shaffer officiating. Burial will follow at Lexington City Cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3074.
There will be no public visitation.
Grady was born in Davidson County, December 12, 1923 to Ernest Grady Rhodes, Sr. and Vernell Coley Rhodes. He was a retired employee of Young-Hinkle Furniture and a charter member of Coggins Memorial Baptist Church. He served his Country in the US Army Company “L” 101st Infantry, during World War II and was a member of VFW Post 3074. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie Blackburn Rhodes, Oct. 1, 2010; a sister, Eloise Honeycutt; two brothers, Kenneth and Coley Rhodes.
Mr. Rhodes is survived by; two daughters, Sherry Rhodes Craver and husband Bentley and Teresa Rhodes Sommers and husband Rick; one son, Mitchell Grady Rhodes; three grandchildren, Richard Rhodes Sommers, Allie Marie Craver and Joseph Bentley Craver, Jr.; one sister, Helen Autry.
