Earl Broughton Smith

Earl Broughton Smith, 76, of W. Second Ave, died Sunday, November 11, at Hinkle Hospice House.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, November 14 at Reeds Baptist Church, where he was a member, by the Rev. Henry Watterson.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 Wednesday prior to the funeral service.

Mr. Smith was born July 23, 1942 in Durham County to Leo Broughton Smith and Edna Earl Cader Smith.  He served in US Army Reserves and retired after 30 years from UNC Hospitals, where he was the pharmacy warehouse manager.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis Holleman Smith of the home; his daughter, Amy Dillard and husband, Shawn, of Lexington; and his grandchildren, Lucas Broughton Mallard and Elijah Robert Mallard, both of Lexington.
