Eddie Greene

Rhett Edward Greene, Sr., known by Eddie, went home to be with his Lord in the early morning hours of December 8, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital after a short illness. Eddie was 76 years old and was surrounded by his wife, family and dear friends.   A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Yadkin College United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Martin officiating. Burial will be in Yadkin College Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday night.   Eddie was born July 10, 1941 in Yadkin College, NC.  He was the fifth and youngest child of George Homer Greene Sr. and Helen Hartley Greene.    Eddie graduated from West Davidson High School and attended Catawba College in Salisbury, NC.  July 7, 1962 he married Florence Payne Greene.  They have one son, Rhett Edward Greene, Jr.  (Ed).   Eddie spent 54 years farming and producing excellent crops on Chestnut Hill Farm. He volunteered at West Davidson Food Pantry and was a huge supporter of this mission.  He was a friend and mentor to many young people in the West Davidson community.    His favorite past times were boating on the Yadkin River, High Rock Lake and in the Atlantic Ocean.  Eddie loved the outdoors, their farm and the raising of their crops.  Some of his favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, tractor pulling, and watching Nascar races.   Eddie was a member of Yadkin College United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and served in many capacities, including Administrative Board Chairman.  He served on the Farm Service Administration Board for 32 years.  He was a member of the Davidson Farmer’s Co-op Board of Directors and served as the Chairman.  He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Piedmont Tractor Pull Association.      Preceding him in death are his parents and siblings, Monte Letcher Greene and George Homer Greene, Jr.  Surviving family, his wife, Florence Payne Greene; son, Ed Greene and his wife Kelly Pergerson Greene; grandsons Jacob Edward Greene (12) and William Thomas Greene (Will) (7).  Surviving siblings June Greene McCall from Carrolton, GA and Nancy Greene Adkins from Yadkin College, NC.  Extended family members, cousins Tonte and Terry Craver and family.  Special Friends, the children of “Maw” Esther Younts: Harvey (deceased), Wanda, Chris and their families.    His greatest love and accomplishments were his son and grandchildren.    In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West Davidson Food Pantry or Yadkin College United Methodist Church Building Fund.
