Edith Donnie Jarrett Lumsden, age 99, of Lexington, NC, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023, at Hinkle Hospice in Lexington. She was surrounded by her loved ones as she embarked on her journey to eternal rest. A funeral service to celebrate her remarkable life will be held at Center Hill Baptist Church on Friday, August 4th at 11 am, with the Reverend Sandy Young and Foy Jarrett, Jr. officiating. Following the service, Edith will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at the church, starting from 10 am until 11 am on the same day.
Edith was born on April 14, 1924, in Davidson County, the beloved daughter of David Oscar Jarrett and Donnie Hartley Jarrett. She lived a fulfilling life, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew her. She was also a faithful member of Center Hill Baptist Church, where her presence was deeply valued. Her dedication to the church shone through as an organist and Sunday School teacher for over 60 years. Edith was also a talented hairdresser who delighted in making people feel and look their best.
Music, reading, and gardening brought Edith immense joy throughout her life. She devoted over 50 years to being a music teacher; her passions enriched the lives of those around her, leaving a legacy of love and happiness. Edith's warm smile and gentle demeanor endeared her to everyone she encountered.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, David (Oscar) and Donnie Jarrett, her husband of over 60 years, Ray Lumsden, as well as her brothers, Everett and Foy Jarrett, and sisters, Troy, Jarrett, Magdalene Jarrett, Vertie-Mae Yarborough, and Jacie Hall. Although she is no longer physically with us, her spirit will forever be a guiding light in the lives of her loved ones.
In honor of Edith's memory, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Center Hill Baptist Church - General Fund at 3759 NC Hwy 8, Lexington, NC 27292. These contributions will support the church's mission and ensure that Edith's legacy of faith and kindness continues to inspire future generations.
Edith Donnie Jarrett Lumsden will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her impact on their lives will endure for generations to come. May she find eternal peace in the loving arms of her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
