Mrs. Edith Jenkins Torrence of E. 9th Avenue, died Saturday, October 29 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, November 1 at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, by the Revs. J.C. Miles and Herman Powell. Burial will follow at Arrington Heights Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 pm prior to the funeral service and other times at the home of her son, Buddy Torrence on Broad Street, Lexington. Mrs. Torrence was born May 30, 1932 in Pulaski, VA to Charles and Sylvia Monkes Jenkins. She was a retired C.N.A and a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Lewis Torrence, Sr; two sisters, Jessie Roseberry and Marie McPeak; two brothers, Bill Jenkins and Clifford “Sonny” Jenkins; and her daughter, Helen “Scottie” Craven. She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia “Jean” Norris (Ray); her sons, Fred Lewis “Buddy” Torrence, Jr. (Vicky) and Robert Earl Torrence, all of Lexington; her sister, Ruby Kimbrell of Lexington; ten grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 11 great great-grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces; and her loyal dog of many years, Prissy.
