Edna Reed Russ

Edna Marie Reed Russ was born March 4, 1940, in Blount County, Tennessee, to the late Harvey Reed and Naoma "Oma" Bowers Reed. She worked for many years at Young and Hinkle in the furniture industry and later enjoyed filling her retirement days working at Walmart.

A funeral service to honor Edna will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Madison Heights Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor David Robinson officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Though deaf most of her life, Edna would often say the last thing she remembered hearing was Elvis Presley in concert when he came through Lexington. She loved gospel music, especially the Gaither Gospel Band and the music of David Phelps, and enjoyed attending their concerts.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two siblings, Bill Ledford and Kathleen Jones; and three children, Frankie Laney, Della Phillips, and Liza Dawn Laney.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Sammy Mickel (Missy); stepchildren, Jimmy Mickel and Connie Mickel; grandchildren, Christopher Laney, Dylan Phillips (Brooke), Matthew Laney (Lydia), Ashlyn Laney (Cory), Samantha Salazar (Jesus), Sarah Mickel, Cindy Mickel, Ronald Mickel, and Johnny Mickel; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Edna was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be remembered for her love of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Madison Heights Free Will Baptist Church or Hospice of Davidson County.
