Edward M. "Bud" Bender Jr.

Edward M. “Bud” Bender Jr., 79, of Chestnut Street, died Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at his home after two years of declining health. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lexington City Cemetery with Dr. Ray Howell 3rd officiating. Mr. Bender was born January 8, 1929, in Davidson County, to Edward M. Bender Sr. and Naomi Hellard Bender. He was a retired insurance agent after serving 34 years with All State Insurance Company. He was a member of First Baptist Church and a graduate of High Point College. In honor of his grandfather who fought in the Civil War, Mr. Bender was a Civil War Enthusiast. Mr. Bender was past president of Lexington downtown Lions Club and a former civitan. He was also active in the Democratic party. Mr. Bender is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jerline Watson Bender of the home. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery and other times at the home.
