Edward Earl Thomas, 98, of Brian Center of Weaverville and formerly of Welcome, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at the nursing home.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, by the Rev. Charles Tanner. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville by Dr. Buddy Corbin.
Mr. Thomas was born Sept. 22, 1908, in Iredell County to Marcus Wood Thomas and Annie Bell Harris Thomas. He was of the Baptist faith and a retired salesman with Zimmerman Furniture Co. He was preceded in death by his wife, Garolene Orders Thomas, on Aug. 20, 1997, and by a grandson, Christopher Thomas.
Surviving are a son, Ronald C. Thomas and his wife, Betsy, of Asheville; a brother, Basil Thomas of Catawba; a sister, Nell Potts of High Point; three grandchildren, Marcus Thomas of Weaverville, Todd Thomas of Westminster, Md., and Amanda Towers of Asheville; and a great-grandchild, Matthew Thomas.
The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.
