Effie Sue Poag Hilliard, age 65 of Horse Shoe Neck Road, Lexington passed away Saturday at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. A Service to celebrate Sue’s life will be held
11 am Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Churchland Baptist Church where she was a member, with Rev. Ray N. Howell IV officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial
Park.
She was born March 16, 1943 in Davidson County to Joe Barber Poag and Notie Bell Gobble Poag. She was retired from Lexcom Communications after 28 years of service. She was a member of Churchland Baptist Church and was a former Deacon. A member of the Lexington Pioneer Club. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Marie Swicegood.
She is survived by her husband James (Jimmy) H. Hilliard of the home; a daughter Robin Fields and husband Riley of Charlotte; one grand daughter, Gracie Fields; one brother Tommy Poag and wife Evie of Lexington; sisters, Mary Long of Salisbury, Joan Forest and husband James, Evelyn Miller, Dot Stiller all of Lexington; mother in law, Evelyn Hilliard of Lexington and brother in law and sister in law, Carl and Margaret Lemly of Lexington.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her brother, Tommy Poag, 226 Tilden Nursery Road, Lexington.
