Eileen Vangundy

Eileen Mae Vangundy, of Lexington, passed away on June 22, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with loving family around her.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am Wednesday, June 26 at Wesley Heights United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Joe Barbee. Burial will follow in the Lexington City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9-11 am Wednesday at the church prior to the funeral service.

She was born May 1, 1934 in Thornhope, IN to Carl and Florence (Liming) Vangundy. When Eileen was 11 years old, her family moved to Earl Park, IN. There she attended school and graduated from Earl Park High School in 1952. Upon graduation, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Kleeme and Cooley Hardware Store.

In 1961, she moved to Lexington, NC, where she has resided ever since. She worked at the Lexington Telephone Company, starting in 1963, and retired in 1996. After retirement, Eileen used her bookkeeping skills to support Wesley Heights United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful sister, friend, aunt, and devoted church member. Her parents, Grady Coy Swicegood, Grady Vance Swicegood, Colonel Vangundy (Gertie), Jeff Vangundy (Ann), and infant, Wayne Vangundy, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her family, Margie and Judy Swicegood, Margaret Swicegood, Sarah Macrow (Brent), Jeffrey Swicegood, Katie Fulp (Sam), Aidan and Brinkley Macrow, and Eli Fulp; her brothers, Ralph (Reba), Harold (Mary), Glenn (Dean); her sisters, Lucy Van Dorn (Bob), and Mary Ann Phillips (Bob); and many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved very much.
