Eles Elizabeth Oglesby Beck, 90 formerly of N. County Home Road, Lexington passed away peacefully in the loving care of the nursing staff at Piedmont Crossing on Monday evening, October 27, 2008. The family is truly thankful for Eles’ many wonderful caregivers at Piedmont Crossing during the past seven and a half years.
She was born April 20, 1918 to James Arthur and Lula McKeown Oglesby in her beloved little town of Great Falls, SC. As a young woman, she was a well-known employee of Francis Department Store in Great Falls. After her marriage to Grady C. Beck in 1944, she became an extraordinary homemaker, residing in New London, Ct, Burlington, NC, and Greensboro, NC before moving to Lexington in 1969. She was formerly a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Greensboro, and of First Reformed United Church of Christ, Lexington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers, J.A., Jr., Kell and Bill Oglesby. She is survived by son, Frank Beck and his wife Betsy of Clemmons, stepson, Grady F. Beck of Lexington, sister, Lucille Williams of Laurens, SC, grandsons, Scott Beck and his wife Tammy of Hickory, and Drew Beck and his wife Alexis of Huntersville and great-grandson, Jamen Beck of Hickory. In addition, she is survived by sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends whom she loved dearly.
The funeral will be conducted by Reverend Care Goodstal, Director of Spiritual Life, Piedmont Crossing, at Davidson Funeral Home, 301 North Main Street, Lexington at 11:00AM on Friday, October 31. The family will receive family and friends following the service. A private family remembrance will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday at Dantzler Baker Funeral Home, Great Falls, SC. Interment will follow in the Oglesby Family Plot, Evergreen Cemetery, Chester, SC.
