Elisabeth "Betty" Hope Allred

Elisabeth Hope “Betty” Allred, age 74 of Abaco Drive, Valle Crucis passed away Monday morning February 8, 2016 at Hinkle Hospice House. Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday February 11, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Lexington with Rev. Dr. Ray Howell, 3rd and Rev. Roy A. Dobyns, Jr. officiating and burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Wednesday night and for out of town friends from 12:45 until 1:45 pm Thursday in the church parlor, prior to the service. Betty was born in Mecklenburg county February 4, 1942 to Hugh “Buck” Alfred and Margaret Virginia Helms McAuley. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Boone. Her career was with National Wholesale for 23 years and retired as Vice-President of new customer acquisition and was a member of National Association of Direct Mail and the New England Association of Direct Mail where she served as treasurer. Betty was instrumental in the fund raising for the Life Center of Davidson County and served two years as President. Her life included being a caregiver to Pearl Johnson at Glennbridge in Boone, was an original member of The Bahama Mamas Steel Drum Band, enjoyed making pottery, painting and was an avid fisherman, especially fly fishing. She was a tremendous cook and a very good hostess to all who visited. Surviving are her loving husband, Dale Allred; sons, Lane Price and Drew Price (Michelle) both of Charlotte; grandchildren, Kendall Del Rio (Kagen), Chip Price (Kat) and Mary Margaret Price; sister Susan Papangelou (Paul) of Clear Water, FL; brothers, Jeff McAuley (Terri) of Little River, SC and Butch McAuley of Spartanburg, SC; sister-in-law, Zedena Barker (Wayne) of Wilkesboro and her special pet companions, Foscoe and Bogey. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Rise Up Campaign, First Baptist Church of Boone, 375 West King Street, Boone, NC 28607 or to SECU Family House, 1970 Baldwin Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
