Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson Bingham, 93, of Southern Pines, died November 1, 2010 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 3, at Forest Hill Memorial Park in Lexington, North Carolina. Dr. David Helms of First Baptist Church in Southern Pines will conduct the service.
Elizabeth Bingham was a native of North Wilkesboro and the daughter of Jay Hugh and Mayme Waugh Johnson. She graduated from Mars Hill College , Woman’s College (UNCG) and did graduate work at Appalachian State University in Library Science. She was a teacher and librarian at East Davidson Senior High and was the librarian at Lexington Middle School for many years.
Her sister, Billie Waugh Stringfield and brother, Jay Hugh Johnson preceded her in death. Ms. Bingham married Dr. James P. Bingham Jr. of Lexington in 1938.
She is survived by a daughter, Jayne Rhodes and husband Ed, of Whispering Pines as well as two sons, Frank Bingham and wife Catherine, of Alexandria, VA ; Hugh Bingham and wife Jill, of Whispering Pines. She was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
