Ellis Mclyle Meekins, Jr.

On Sunday, August 13, 2017, Ellis Meekins, Jr. beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and friend, having fought many health battles and losing his last fight is now able to rest in peace.  On May 31, 1950, Ellis was born to Julia Mayo Meekins and Ellis M. Meekins.  Ellis married his high school sweetheart, Anita on October 17, 1970, starting a life of 46 years together.  He is survived by his parents, his wife, his son Scott Meekins (Bridgette), his daughter Heather Bailey (Matthew), his granddaughter Bethany Meekins, 2 granddogs Teddy and Dakota, and multiple aunts, uncles and cousins.  He retired from Hanesbrands in 2013.  Ellis loved traveling, especially to the beach, and spending time with his family.  We will miss him terribly but know he is no longer in pain and is watching over us as he enjoys his favorite slushies.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wake Forest Baptist Cancer Center, 1 Medical Center Blvd., Winston-Salem, NC  27157.  A gathering of friends and family to reminisce and remember Ellis will be held at the Davidson Funeral Home, 858 Hickory Tree Rd., Winston-Salem, NC at exit 100 off Hwy 52 South on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 6 pm – 8pm.   Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel is assisting the family.
