Elmer Charlie Walser, 90, of W. Old Highway 64, died Sunday, August 7, 2011, at Rowan Regional Medical Center following a serious illness of four days.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at Friendship United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Wade Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son, 5881 West Old Highway 64.
Mr. Walser was born March 6, 1921, in Davidson County, to Albert Walser and Josie Shoaf Walser. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was owner and operator of Walser Barber Shop with 60 years service to the community. Mr. Walser was a member of Lexington Memorial Lodge 473 and Amvets Post 13. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Potts Walser who died July 30, 2000; brothers, Archie Walser and Willie Walser; and sisters, Pallie Mize and Kathleen Yates.
Surviving are son, Larry Walser and wife, Carolyn, of Lexington; daughter, Ruth Sharpe and husband, Carey, of Linwood; grandchildren, Tim Walser and wife Kim, Bryan Sharpe and wife, Melody, Kevin Sharpe and wife, Beth, Ashley Parks and Brittany Parks; great-grandchildren, Daniel Sharpe, Noah Sharpe, Olivia Sharpe, Jordan Sharpe, Lily Sharpe, Gabriel Sharpe, Matthew Leonard, Ryne Leonard, Clay Leonard, Collin Walser and Morgan Walser; and sisters, Wilma Leonard and Louise Young, both of Lexington.
