Elsie Motley

Elsie Virginia Leonard Motley, age 97, of Lexington passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Lexington Health Care.                           A funeral service will be held at Linwood United Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Charles A. Lindquist Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.   The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington.   Ms. Motley was born in Davidson County on September 24, 1921 to Thad Leonard and Margaret Owens Leonard. She was a retired bookkeeper, having worked at the A&P store for 35 years and for H&R Block for 15 years. She was a member of Linwood United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, three sisters, and one grandson, Jeffrey Lynn Thompson.   Surviving are her son, Gideon Taylor Motley Jr. (Stella) of Rutherfordton; her daughter, Nancy Carolyn Thompson of Lexington; three grandchildren, Brian Thompson (Lisa), Elizabeth Howard (Joe), and Virginia Sloop (Marc); and five great-grandchildren, Hailey, Harper, and Joey Howard, and Georgia and Nola Sloop; and sister, Alene Leonard Thompson.   Memorials may be directed to Linwood United Methodist Church at 4700 Old Linwood Road, Linwood, NC 27299.
