Emily Cox (Em) DeLapp, 91, of West Second Avenue died Friday, May 25, 2018 at Lexington Health Care. Memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Grace Episcopal Church. A private inurnment will be held in the church columbarium. The family will see friends after the service at the home of her niece, Ellen DeLapp Linder. Em was born in Newport News, Virginia on February 27, 1927 to the Reverend Harvey Atkinson Cox and Hattie Moose Cox. A lifelong Episcopalian, she was a devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church where she served on the Vestry and Altar Guild. Em attended Flora McDonald College and was a member of The Charity League of Lexington, O’Henry Study Club, and the “Black Chicken Coffee Gang.” She was retired from the office at Dixie Furniture where she worked for 28 years. Em was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cliff Leonard DeLapp, Jr.; son, Cliff Leonard (Chum) DeLapp, III; brother, Harvey Cox; sister, Maggie Snuggs; and brother-in-law, Bill DeLapp. She is survived by her son, John Alexander DeLapp (Martha Farris) of Anchorage, Alaska; her daughter, Beth DeLapp (John Franklin) of Lexington; grandson, Alexander DeLapp Franklin; and sister-in-law, Sara DeLapp. Memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 419 South Main Street, or to a charity that reflects Em’s values.
