Emogene “Jean” Lanier Cope, 88, of Stamey Avenue, Lexington passed away Sunday night at Lexington Medical Center after declining health of two years.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Bill Shrout, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of her brother, Jim Lanier on Leonard Road.
Jean was born in Davidson County, July 31, 1924, to James Nathaniel Lanier and Nona Dell Michael Lanier. She was a retired employee of Davidson County Tax Department; a member of Second Reformed United Church of Christ; and attended Ashemore Business College.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Lanier; and sister, Peggy Sue Phelps.
Surviving are a son, Roland Gene Grant of Lexington; brothers, Jim Lanier of Lexington; Ralph Lanier and wife Glenna of Dobson and Dwight Lanier and wife Annie Mae of Greensboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
