Eric Shane "Monkey" Church

Eric Shane “Monkey” Church, 47, of Davidson County, passed away on November 29, 2025. Born on January 27, 1978, in Davidson County. His parents are Ernest Matthew Church Sr. and Yvonne Byrd Wilson. Eric remained a lifelong resident of the community he loved.

Eric found joy in working outdoors and had a true passion for landscaping. He took pride in creating beautiful outdoor spaces for others to enjoy. When he wasn’t working, he could often be found fishing—another hobby that brought him peace and happiness. Above all, Eric cherished time spent with his nieces, nephews, and the many friends who were like family to him. He especially adored Kash, who held a very special place in his heart.

Left to honor his memory are his mother, Yvonne Byrd Wilson; his sisters, Teresa Owensby of Linwood, April Hamby of Welcome, and Mary Church Leonard (Don) of Welcome; his brother, Ernest Church Jr. (Robin) of Linwood; his caregiver, Brandi Hamby; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Ernest Matthew Church Sr. He is also preceded in death by his biological brother, Robert “Adam” Barnes.

A funeral service to honor Eric’s life will be held at Davidson Funeral Home of Lexington on Thursday, December 4th, 2025, beginning at 1pm, with Pastor Doug McGee officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends the night prior, on Wednesday, December 3rd, from 6 pm to 8pm at Davidson Funeral Home of Lexington.
