Following his time in the service, he became a welder and pipe fitter and honed this skill throughout his career.

Above all, the most precious part of Ernest’s life was the deep love he held for his family, especially his grandchildren. He adored his wife, Patricia, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, devoting his time and heart to them. They will always hold him in a special place in their hearts, finding comfort in the love and memories they shared.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Ann Quesai Laxton; son, Curtis Allen Laxton; brothers, Robert “Bob” Laxton, Larry Laxton, Paul Laxton, and Curt Laxton; and sister, Joyce Laxton Perdue.
Left to carry on his legacy are his children, Ernest Laxton Jr. “Bim” (Judy), of Stacy, D’etta Ivey (Rodney), of Lexington, and Donna Lynch (Johnnie), of Lexington; daughter in law, Genorah Laxton, of Tyro; brothers, Jack Laxton (Ruby), of Albemarle, and Jerry Laxton (Nancy); grandchildren, Phillip Laxton (Tiffany), Joey Laxton, William Laxton, Justin Ivey (Hannah), Zackery Ivey, Russell Lynch (Samm), Chris Lynch (Brandy), and Drew Lynch (Taylor); and 18 great grandchildren.
