Ernest Franklin Whittington, 84 of Garland Drive, Lexington died Tuesday December 21, 2010 at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
A funeral service will be Thursday at 2:00 PM Thursday Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Robert Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home and at other times at the son’s home, on Garland Drive Lexington.
Mr. Whittington was born in Gaston County on May 9, 1926 to Walter B. Whittington and Carrie Huneycutt Whittington. He was owner and operator of J & J Automotive and served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a member of VFW Post 3074. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fay Hodge Whittington on July 8, 2004 and brothers, Robert Whittington; Cleo Whittington; Paul Whittington; Walter B. Whittington, Jr. and Harold Whittington and sisters, Ruth Johnson and Margaret Ball.
Surviving are his son Jerry Whittington and wife Brenda of Lexington; daughter, Carolyn Humble and husband Jimmy of Asheboro, grandchildren Teasha Bass and husband Allen of Pawley’s Island, SC; Todd Humble and wife Lisa of Clayton, NC; Lisa Crotts and husband Tracy of Lexington and Shannon Mott and husband Gregg of Wilmington, NC. Great grandchildren Hunter, Madison, Ragan, and Blake Bass all of Pawley’s Island, SC; Chase and Meredith Thompson of Lexington; Justin and Jayla Humble of Clayton, NC; Jackson Mott of Wilmington; Mary Paige Mott; Caleb Crotts and Chandler Crotts.
