Essie Jones

Mrs. Essie Whitehurst Stallings Jones, 72, of Odell Owens Road, died Saturday, July 31 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 4 from the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Dave Williams. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home on Odell Owens Road. Mrs. Jones was born October 28, 1938 in Pitt County to John Pearlie Whitehurst and Essie Whitaker Whitehurst. She retired from Bristol-Myers Squibb and a member of Reeds Baptist Church. Her sons, John Hyman Stallings, and Jimmy Carl Stallings, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Tommy Eugene Jones, of the home; her son, Gene Jones, and wife, Tammy, of Georgia; her daughters, Susan Plott of Lexington; and Deana Burns of Florida; her sister, Nancy Batchelor of Greenville; and her grandchildren, Holly Plott of Lexington; Shelby Jones and Trey Jones of Georgia; and Shawna Nelson and Dallas Nelson of Florida.
