Eula Thomas Marks

January 3, 1922 — February 1, 2023

On February 1, 2023, Eula Thomas Marks “Mama”, age 101, passed away and Heaven welcomed home another child of God.

Eula was born on January 3, 1922, to Edgell and Sadie Thomas in Alachua, FL. Her family, which included sister, Louise, then moved to Atlanta, GA, where baby sister, Betty, joined the family and where they grew up. She eventually met and married Golden Albert “GA” Marks, and they moved to Charlotte, NC, where their two children, Carol and Rick, were born and raised. Eula, GA and Rick moved back to Atlanta, and Carol and husband, Alan, moved to Winston-Salem and had Eula’s only grandchildren, Leigh, Shelby and Jeff. After the passing of her husband, she moved with Rick to Lexington, NC, not far from Carol, Alan and the kids, which now included 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Mama was a feisty, sometimes stubborn lady with a wonderful heart. She made her grandkids smile and laugh as she tried riding their bikes and even trying out their skateboard. She would sneak chewing gum or peppermint patties to them in church and always made sure to have the little cans of apple juice at her house in Atlanta when they visited. She lovingly called us “shugah” in her southern lady accent, had the softest hands ever and always smelled so good because of her hand lotion.

Mama had a deep faith and enjoyed attending church at First Baptist in Lexington and spending time with her Sunday school friends until age made it too hard for her to attend. She lived a long, full life but told us she was tired and ready for this life to end. So, in typical Eula Marks fashion once she had made up her mind, she left this life quietly and peacefully. Mama will always be missed but forever in our hearts and we have joy knowing one day we will see her again.

Matthew 17:20 NIV

…if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.
