Eunice Neva Slusser Poetzinger

Eunice Neva Slusser Poetzinger, 100, of Piedmont Crossing, formerly of Lexington, died Friday, February 25, 2011, at Hinkle Hospice House after declining health for five weeks. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2011, at Davidson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Lee Zehmer and the Rev. Sarah Snell officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Mrs. Poetzinger was born March 19, 1910, in Ohio, to Ira and Elizabeth Slusser. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon, was a member of the ESP Group and Women of the Church. She was a volunteer at the hospital for 15 years, meals on wheels for 17 years and also a former member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Poetzinger loved her flowers and enjoyed arranging them into beautiful bouquets, she also enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends. On October 14, 1933 she married John Frederick “Fred” Poetzinger, in Defiance, Ohio, who had preceded her in death June 18, 2005. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her four brothers and one sister. Surviving are a daughter, Betty Schumaker and husband, Don, of Marietta, Ohio; son, Dr. Jack Poetzinger and wife, Brenda, of Archdale; five grandchildren, James and Robert Poetzinger, Susan Kepley, Mary Crow and Stephen Schumaker; and eight great-grandchildren, Allison and Matthew Schumaker, Adam, Aaron and Emily Crow, Grace and Connor Poetzinger and Jonathan Kepley. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
