Eva Mae Payne Queen, 99, of George Surratt Road, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at First Wesleyan Church with the Revs. Michael Greer and Roy Queen, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Paul’s Chapel Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel and other times at their respective homes.
Mrs. Queen was born October 10, 1910, in Swain County, to R. G. Payne and Dora Stanford Payne. She was a Sunday school teacher for the Beginner’s Class for over 55 years at her church and served as President of the Missionary Society. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawson Dee Queen; son, Jasper Queen; an infant son and daughter; sons-in-law, Elmo Hartman and Jack Koonts; daughter-in-law, Joyce Queen, one special granddaughter, Judy Taylor; great grandsons, Chris Long and Bryan Watson; brothers, Estes Payne, Grady Payne, and Roy Payne; and sisters, Thelma Payne and Vadie Queen.
Surviving are son, Jacob R. Queen and wife, Peggy, of Lexington; daughters, Marie Hartman, Tootsie Green and husband, Ron, Christine Watson and husband, Dale, Gracie Hicks and husband, Junior, and Elsie Koonts, all of Lexington; daughter-in-law, Sonya Queen; 21 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Fessie Payne, Lorenza Payne, Dillard Payne and a sister, Lucy Starr all of Lexington.
