Evelyn Louise Leonard Dayton, 74, of S. NC Highway 150, died Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at Lexington Memorial Hospital, following an illness of several years.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Thomas Todd officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and other times at the home of her granddaughter, 12002 S. NC Highway 150.
Mrs. Dayton was born October 22, 1936, in Davidson County, to Willis Lawrence Leonard and Ella Jones Leonard. She was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Elsworth Dayton on June 16, 1989; sons, Jerry Leonard, Sammy Eugene Dayton, and Victor Wayne Dayton; and sister, Lilly Shrewsbury.
Surviving are daughters, Sharon McCraw and husband, Henry, of Linwood, and Cindy Venable and husband, Mike, of Lexington; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe Dan Leonard of Lexington and Willis Leonard of Rockwell; and sisters, Peggy Huffman, Judy Vestal, both of Lexington and Brenda Lockhart of Winston-Salem.
