Evelyn Hawkins Hickman

Evelyn Hawkins Hickman, 74, of Lowell Street, died Monday, August 12, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. A celebration of Evelyn’s life will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Davidson Funeral Home. Mrs. Hickman was born April 14, 1939, in Jackson County, to James Hawkins and Pearl Inman Hawkins Grooms. She was employed at Alston Brook Nursing Center. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hickman; and a brother, Jonny Grooms. Surviving are sons, Jimmy Hickman of Lexington and Charles Hickman of Winston-Salem; daughter, Mary Johnson and husband Joel of Lexington; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Jimmy Hawkins of Hickory, Billy Hawkins of Fletcher and Eddie Grooms of Greenville, SC; sister, JoAnn Vaughan of Kansas; and her loving pets, Nuggett, Opie, PeeWee and Tiger.
