Evelyn Cross Mayes

Evelyn Gladys Cross Mayes, 81, of Taylor Road, died Friday May 26, 2017 at her home in Lexington.   A funeral service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ken Deal. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.   The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 Wednesday, prior to the funeral, at Davidson Funeral Home.   Mrs. Mayes was born November 13, 1935 in Davidson County to Peter Lee Cross and Nannie Marie Hulin Cross. She was a member of New Life Baptist Church and preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas Howard Mayes; four brothers, Edward Cross, James Cross, Joe Cross, and Jake Cross; and seven sisters, Blanche Painter, Madaline Cross, Mary Harvey, Louise Kimbrel, Etta Burkhart, Janet Burkhholder, and Edna Palmer.   Surviving are three sisters; Jeanie Byerly of Lexington, Betty Earwood, of Murphy NC, and Olive Boyd of Illinois; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.         Online condolences may be made at www.davidsonfuneralhome.net
