Evelyn Poag Miller

September 30, 1926 — February 8, 2018

Evelyn Frances Poag Miller, age 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Alston Brook in Lexington with her family by her side.   Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Tyro United Methodist Church, where she was a member, by Rev. Randy Foster with visitation at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday and at other times at the home of her son, Terry Miller.  Burial will follow the service at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lexington.   Evelyn was born on September 30, 1926 in Rowan County, NC to the late Joe Barber Poag and Notie Belle Gobble.  She was a graduate of Churchland High School and worked at Lexington Silk Mill, Link-Taylor and retired from PPG Industries in the Warping Department.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Grady Harrison Miller in 1993, a twin brother, Joe Jr., who failed to survive birth and three sisters, Dorothy Stiller, Marie Swicegood and Sue Hilliard.   She is survived by sons Terry Miller and wife, Linda, Steve Miller and wife, Donna;  sisters Mary Long of Salisbury and Joan Forrest; brother, Tommy Poag and wife, Evie, of Lexington; 3 grandchildren, Jason Miller and wife, Angie, Jamie Leonard and husband,  Garrett, of Lexington and Martha Redmon of Thomasville; 5 great-grandchildren, Cameron Miller, Silas Leonard, Nicole Gibby, Aleah James and Paisley Redmon, as well as her sweet roommate at Alston Brook, Dorothy Reynolds, whom we called “Mama Dot.”   The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff at Alston Brook for the compassionate care they gave Evelyn in the past years.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tyro United Methodist Church, 4484 Highway 150 South, Lexington, NC 27295.
