Evelyn Oates

Mrs. Evelyn Lorene Hedrick Oates, 78, of Lantern Lane, died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, by the Rev. Dr. Lee Zehmer. Inurnment will be held in the Church Columbarium. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Mrs. Oates was born September 17, 1934 in Davidson County to David Ottis Hedrick and Esther Hedrick Hedrick. She was a graduate of Davis Townsend High School and attended Lenoir-Rhyne College. She was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Presbyterian Women. Mrs. Oates was also a member of the Lexington Garden Club and the Charity League of Lexington, and volunteered at Lexington Memorial Hospital. Her parents and a brother, Olin David Hedrick, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert T. Oates, Jr. of the home; her son, Christopher S. Oates and wife, Elizabeth, of Greensboro; her daughter, Laura Oates Hubbard and husband, Jeffrey, of Forest, VA; her brother, Leon Hedrick and wife, Ruth, of Lexington; her grandchildren, Mary Oates, Anna Oates, Sarah Hubbard, and Josh Hubbard.
