Jul 19, 1939 — Oct 1, 2026

Lexington

Evelyn Marie Gobble Everhart, affectionately known by family and friends as Sissy, departed her earthly home on October 1, 2026. She was 87 years old, born in Davidson County to Lester and Sarah Ruth Gobble who preceded her in death. She is reunited with the love of her life, Clyde (Sonny) Everhart, Jr who worshipped the ground Sis walked on. Also preceding her was a sister, Sarah Jaqueline Gobble, a brother, Lester Franklin Gobble and wife Bonnie, brother Jeffrey Steve Gobble and brother-in-law, Jerry Everhart.

A funeral service will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Christ United Church of Christ with the Revs. Sandy Young and Jabo Knotts officiating. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, where she was a member.

The family will receive friends from 3 pm until 4 pm prior to the service at the church.

Sissy is survived by a son, Darrin Everhart and wife Lisa Butler-Everhart, grandson, Micah Darrin Everhart and wife Stevie and a granddaughter, Lillie Elisabeth Everhart, and partner Grace Heneghan. Also surviving is a brother, Thomas Delano Gobble and wife Judy, sister-in-law, Tina Morgenson Gobble, sister-in-law, Judy Everhart Martin and husband Bobby, sister-in-law Marcia Lomax Everhart and special friend and neighbor, Linda Leonard. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including special nephews, Ryan and Keelan Gobble, who were like grandchildren to her.

Evelyn graduated from Lexington Senior High School, class of 1958, where she played on the varsity basketball team, once even with a broken foot. She went onto Ashmore Business College and worked clerical jobs at Burlington Industries, Bahnson/Flak Company, B&W Metal Fabricators, Morton Metalcraft and Matcor.

Sis began a care giving relationship with her father, mother, husband, brother, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law while working a full-time job. She enjoyed traveling to Daytona with Sonny, Judy and Bobby in February for Speedweeks. She enjoyed the Southern 500, in Darlington and races at Rockingham Speedway, North Wilkesboro Speedway and camping in the Winston Corral in turn 4 of Charlotte Motor Speedway. She hardly ever missed the races at Bowman Gray for years cheering the number 9, Hayes Jewelers special, driven by Ralph Brinkley.

Sis and Sonny spent a lifetime of traveling to many destinations but loved the South Carolina coast. She hardly ever missed a summer trip to North Myrtle Beach or Cherry Grove Beach. There she spent time with her grandchildren, giving them everything they would ask for, and then some. She specifically loved spending time, and money, at Tanger Outlets and finishing off with ice cream from Original Painter’s Homemade Ice Cream.
