Evelyn Shoaf Underwood, age 89, of Meadowood Street, Greensboro, formerly of Lexington passed away Sunday morning at Moses Cone Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday (April 20, 2010) at First Baptist Church in Lexington where she was a member all of her life, with Dr. Ray Howell and Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the parlor of First Baptist Church from 2:00 until 3:00 pm prior to the service.
Evelyn was born in Davidson County, December 30, 1920 to Harvey R. Shoaf and Bessie V. Shoaf. She was retired from Leggett and Platt as office manager. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Hilda Shoaf Watkins.
Surviving are: husband, James “Jim” Underwood of the home; one daughter, Lynn Elkin Miller and husband Frank of Greensboro; one son, James Claude Underwood, Jr. of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Lauren McRae and husband Jeff, Jonathan Dillon and wife Stephanie all of Greensboro, Anna Marie Underwood of Greenwood, SC, Blake Underwood of Lexington and four great-grandchildren.
