Floyd Walter Morrison, 93, of Second Rainbow Street, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at Brookdale Senior Living.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Michael Kearns and Allan Green officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 30.
Mr. Morrison was born on February 25, 1923, in Surry County, to William T. Morrison and Sinia Triplett Morrison. He was a retired weaver from Dacotah Cotton Mills and a charter member of Welcome Church of God. Floyd was very devoted to his Lord and Savior and always served the Lord above all else. To his family and friends, Floyd could be known as “Diddle”. In the mid 1900’s Floyd was a very talented musician and played in various string bands such as the Tar Heel Ramblers, in churches, clubs and theaters across the Carolinas and beyond. Floyd was featured in a book titled “String Bands in the North Carolina Piedmont” by Bob Carlin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Ruth Everhart Morrison, who died May 31, 2000; brothers, Charlie Morrison, Claude Morrison, Frank Morrison and Thurman Morrison; a sister, Lula Leonard; and stepson, Barney Everhart.
Surviving are daughter-in-law, Hilda Everhart; granddaughter Tina Marble and husband Greg; nephews, Olin Leonard and wife Peggy, Theo Morrison and wife Chris, Larry Morrison and wife Linda, Wayne Morrison and wife Doris, and Brady Morrison and wife Gloria; and nieces, Ruby Vaughan and Velma Craver and husband Jimmy, and a host of great nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
