Flynn Leonard Michael, 85, of Lexington, died Sunday, February 14, 2010 after an illness of several months.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev. Terry Rowland. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Mr. Michael was born in Davidson County on May 17, 1924 to Callie Sue Leonard Michael and Randall Marshall Michael. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Burlington House after 40 years in the furniture industry. He then enjoyed working for more than 20 years at Lexington Memorial Hospital with so many special people who also gave him loving care during his illness. He was a retired volunteer fireman with the Reeds Fire Department. For more than 60 years, he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served on the administrative council, was finance secretary, served as an usher, and was a member of Methodist Men. He traveled regularly with Piedmont Region Model A Restorers Club in his 1931 Ford, accumulating almost 20,000 miles. He loved the outdoors, deer hunting, and visiting his cabin at High Rock Lake.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Koontz Michael, in 2005, and by a sister, Geneva Michael Snider, in 2004.
Surviving are two sons, Randall Blake Michael and wife, Molly Albright Michael, of Delaware, Ohio, and Wayne Leonard Michael and wife, Sandra Eller Michael, of Lexington; one daughter, Debby Michael of Lexington; four grandchildren, Jenny Michael Varner and husband, Bren, of Lexington, Meredith Michael Mundell and husband, Chris, of Columbus, Ohio, Emily Michael Cagle and husband, Gary, of Winston-Salem, and Blake Leonard Michael of Arlington, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Madelyn Mundell of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Forrest Marshall Michael; and two sisters, Jeanette Michael Shoaf and Connie Michael Forrest.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, and other times at the home of his son, Wayne Michael, 409 S. State St.
