Paula Frances Berrier passed away surrounded by members of her beloved family on April 21, 2026. Known affectionately by all as “Frances,” by some as “Aunt Frances,” and by more than were biological and by blood alike as “Mamaw,” she touched an untold number of lives. Frances was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, H.W. Davis, great-granddaughter Izzy Ramirez, and her parents. She grew up with two sisters who she loved dearly, Bonnie and Mary Ellen.
Frances was a baton-twirling force to be reckoned with in her youth, and met her match in Larry when they married as teenagers. For over sixty years, they built a life together and chose one another throughout many new chapters and challenges: but their greatest joys were always their family. The two had Laurie Len (Jarred) Wood and Deborah Carol (Scott) Hudson. Their two girls then gave them Ashley (Tom), Jordan (Caroline), and Lauren (Gilbert). She was a diligent, bright businesswoman who sold tupperware, hosting parties and encouraging women from her Tupper Toppers friends to strangers who came to know and love her, too. Frances was so enamored with these grandchildren that she cared for them until they went to school, and then followed them to school to work in the cafeteria at Reeds Elementary. Her kindness impacted so many children who--unbeknownst to them--had their lunches paid for by Frances who knew each of their “lunch numbers” and knew when they might run out of money. Her grandchildren’s friends came to know Frances as an adoptive grandmother, and that they could show up on beach trips, to dinners, and to ride along to a ball game of any kind and be welcomed and fed.
From her care for her family to her love of her husband, Frances kept herself busy as the CCO: Chief Concern Officer. She was always two steps ahead in wondering, worrying, or loving her people whether they knew it or not. She was too computer savvy for her own good at her age, and her daily FaceTimes with great-grandbabies will be sorely missed. A multi-talented cook, artist, and dancer, some of her family’s fondest memories will revolve around laughing with Frances and the many stories and times they shared on trips to Ocean Lakes, a baseball game, or a family holiday where she facilitated games with much joy but very little logic.
Frances will be remembered and missed by her entire family and community, and is survived by husband Larry, daughters Debbie and Laurie, grandchildren Ashley, Jordan, and Lauren. She was Aunt Frances to many cherished nieces and nephews, like a sister to cousin Doug Jr., and like a mother to her sons-in-law Scott and Jarred. Her great grandchildren Eva, Merry Grace, Aubrey, Owen, Camila, Henry, Oliver, and William will remember Mamaw’s pancakes, her hugs, and the occasional dance party. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Marcine, Joyce, Susan, and brothers-in-law Eugene and Donald.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Hospice of Davidson County or a charity of your choice.
The family will receive visitors Friday, April 24 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home on Main Street in Lexington and the funeral will be at 11:00 Saturday morning with a graveside service to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
