Fred Lohr

September 10, 1933 — January 30, 2014

Fred Lee Lohr, 80, of East Holly Grove Road, died January 30, 2014 in Hinkle Hospice House after an extended illness. A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Holly Grove Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Mocko officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service and the family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Fred was born September 10, 1933, in Davidson County, to Herbert Miller and Mary Parks Lohr. He graduated from Lexington Senior High in 1951, and attended Lenoir Rhyne and Catawba Colleges. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He played American Legion baseball and later for the Navy Hellcats in Memphis, TN. Fred was a longtime coach and supporter of area youth athletics and was the Post 8 American Legion coach for several years. Fred was owner/operator of Southern Lunch restaurant in Lexington. He was a faithful member of Holly Grove Lutheran Church, a member of the LMIM group, had served on the church council and loved the Lord. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 8 and VFW Post 3074. He was a friend to all, never met a stranger. He loved sports especially Central Davidson Spartan softball, the Atlanta Braves, and the NC State Wolfpack. He was an avid golfer and member of Lexington Men’s Golf Association. Fred had a strong love for animals especially his cat, Ginger. Fred is survived by his daughter, Freddie and husband Kevin Fulbright; sons, Herb Lohr and wife Wendy and John Lohr and wife Susan; grandchildren, Karl Fulbright (Lindsey), Jennifer Lohr (Dallas), Whitney Lohr, Kara Lohr, Anna Lohr, Alison Lohr and Colton Jones; great-grandchildren, Aio, Salil, and Eulalie Fulbright, Madison Lohr Pope and Camden Swing; brother, Bruce Lohr (Barbara); nephews, Phillip Lohr and Lee Lohr; sister-in-law, Darlene Parsons (Don); nieces, Beth Harris and Beverly Young. The family would like to thank the Hinkle Hospice House for their loving compassionate care.
