It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Fred Christ Mayerle, III, "Bud", of 102 Boyce Sink Court in Thomasville on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. Bud was born on November 21, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois to Fred Christ Mayerle II and Eleanor Otto Mayerle. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Julia Arabella Worrell Mayerle Eller; his second wife, Shirley Ann Cole Mayerle, a stepson Barry Cole and a granddaughter Lauren Miller Dobbins.
Bud was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the 82nd Airborne. He was fond of adventure, photography and loved nature. At the age of 20 he received his private pilots license. Bud completed his education at the University of Illinois and the Illinois Institute of Technology in Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Graphics. He also studied Nuclear Defense Design and Fallout Shelter Analysis at NC State University. He began his professional career as a draftsman in Chicago in 1961, designing commercial buildings. He later became an instructor of drafting and mechanical design at what was later known as Davidson County Community College. During his 23 years with DCCC his classes focused on traditional drafting and design and later on early computer aided drafting and design, utilizing CADD computer software for Apple and IBM computers. In conjunction with his teaching responsibilities, he also operated Design Drafting and surveying business where he provided drafting, surveying and engineering consulting services. Bud was an active member of the Central Carolina Civitans for many years as well as a member of the Lions Club. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Lexington, and later a member of the Lexington Church of Christ.
Bud is survived by his son David Mayerle of Tyro; two daughters, Linda Miller (Daniel) of Lexington, Amy Mayerle Finney of Lexington, and stepdaughter, Tammy Cole Moore (David) of Raleigh; 4 grandchildren; Gray Miller, Zachary Finney, Matthew Finney and Erin Smith; 4 great grandchildren; Arabella, Jonah, Spencer and Kimber; and sister, Carol Johns, of Michigan as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to The Every Age Employee Education Fund at everyage.org
A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, July 17th at 1:00
Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville, Unity Place
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lexington NC at 3:00.
