Fred Doyle McClure Jr., 84, of Bryan Woods Lane in Lexington, passed away Thursday August 27th, 2026, at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.
A funeral will be held 11:00 am Tuesday September 1, 2026, at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington with Pastor Derrick and Pastor Paul Titus officiating services. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery in Salisbury.
The family will recieve friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Monday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.
Mr. McClure was born February 14th, 1942, in Tulsa Oklahoma to Fred Doyle McClure Sr. and Marguerite McClure Crank. Fred served in the United States Army, the United States Navy, the United States Air Force and the United Staes National Guard. Her served many years as a County Commissioner in Davidson County and was president of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners from 2016-2017. Fred took his love of basketball to Sheets Memorial Christian School where he coached for many years. As a hobby he also enjoyed playing golf. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son David McClure and a brother, Curtis Crank.
Surviving is his wife, Willma Kay Hall McClure, of the home; his daughter. Shonda McClure of Colorado; a brother, Eddie McClure (Linda) of Louisianna; a step- brother, Leonard Crank (Sharon) of Louisianna; a sister-in-law, Cindy Malcon of Georgia; and 7 grandchildren, Jacob McClure, Nicole Gooch, Audree Leonard-Taylor, Jared Williamson, Ryan Richards, Sabastian White, and Conner White.
Memorials may be made in his honor to donor’s choice.
