Galen Dean “Smokey” Carter, age 56 of Clark Road, Linwood died Saturday night in
Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday at Faith Chapel on Highway 8 with Bishop Ronnie Shaw and Evangelist Phillip Carter officiating; burial will follow in the Hurley Family Cemetery in Randolph County.
Mr. Carter was born in Surry County, July 4, 1951 to Fonzy Lee Carter and Shirley Mae Ferguson Carter. He was a former saw operator and a member of Faith Chapel. He was preceded in death by his father.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Hurley Carter of the home; Son, Jimmy D. Carter of the home,
Daughter, Shelley C. Stewart of Lexington; four grandchildren, Noah Stewart, Michael MacCay, Hailey and Amanda Carter; mother, Shirley Ferguson Carter of Lexington; brother, Phillip Carter and wife, Roxann, of Tyro; sister, Theresa Carter Owens and husband, Keith, of Lexington.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his mother, 1797 E. Holly Grove Road, Lexington.
