Gardner Boyst

April 14, 1950 — October 26, 2019

Gardner Boyst, 69, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Gardner was born in Brockport, N.Y. to Jasper and Paula Boyst on April 14, 1950. He was the second of four children. He met his wife in 1973 when he moved from New York to Lexington for work with Owens-Illinois. They married in 1974 and had three children, Adam, Jeff, and Lindsay. Gardner continued his career, moving to Toledo, O.H. in 1988 and raising his family. After retirement, he returned to Lexington in 2009 to be closer to family. Even in retirement, Gardner couldn’t sit still and continued to work contract work up until the year of his passing. In his adventures traveling across more than 85 countries as Furnace Operations Engineer, Gardner made many friends who will miss his presence and unique sense of humor. He wasn’t shy to tell a joke and he’s really glad Hillary didn’t win. Even with his career, family came first. He had a special connection with each one of his grandchildren.Gardner is survived by his loving wife, Maxine Boyst; brothers, Jarl (Doris) Boyst, Eric (Patricia) Boyst, and Rolf; children, Adam Boyst, Jeff Boyst, Lindsay (Billy) Hesser; grandchildren, Caden, Malaina, Dylan, Lauren, and Gavin; and many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
