Garland Essick

Garland Edward Essick, 89, of Lexington went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at the Hinkle Hospice House.

A funeral service will be held at Mount Tabor United Church of Christ at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 17, 2020 with the Rev. Darrell Sluder officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the service at the Church.

Mr. Essick was born in Davidson County on May 3, 1930 to Harvey Essick and Mary Dorsett Essick Swicegood. He was a retired electrician, having worked for PPG and was a member of Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ. Mr. Essick was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion, Post 8. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mildred Ann Everhart Essick; three brothers, William Essick, Bruce Essick and Boyd Essick; four sisters, Ruby McGuire, Elaine Walser, Lillian Sipes and Doris Hedrick; a nephew, Glenn Curry; and a grandson, Jeremy Essick.

Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Gary Harvey Essick (Amy) of SC and Kevin Stuart Essick (Kaye) of Thomasville; two daughters, Edwina Louya of Lexington and Leah Ann Warren (Gary) of Denton; sisters-in-law, Nancy Essick, Sharon Essick and Jean Essick; five grandchildren, Branden Essick (Autumn), Emily Essick, Beth Ann Baxter (Ian), Joey Louya and Travis Louya (Kristi) and an adopted daughter, Donna Ball.
