Garland Palmer "Jake" Leonard

Garland Palmer “Jake” Leonard, 73, of Cow Palace Road, died Sunday, September 7, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center following a serious illness of six weeks. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at Coggins Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a member, by the Revs. Lewis Johns and Chris Henderson. Entombment will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Leonard was born January 12, 1935, in Davidson County, to Palmer Leonard and Valley Hedrick Leonard. He was retired from Dacotah Mills and had worked part-time at Smith Mill Works. In addition to his parents Mr. Leonard was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Leonard and a sister, Emogene Hauser. Surviving are his wife, Jane Comer Leonard of the home; sons, Wayne Leonard and wife, Anne, of Bowling Green, Ky., and Randy Leonard of Lexington; four grandchildren, Amanda Leonard, Jeff Leonard and wife, Kiley, Staci Leonard and Cody Leonard, one great-grandchild, Jacob Leonard; three brothers, Jerry Leonard and wife, Sharon, Robert Leonard and wife, Kaye, and Gary Leonard and wife, Debbie, all of Lexington; and four sisters, Doris Leonard, Linda Blankenship, Judy Tysinger and husband, Johnny, and Kay Hanes and husband, Johnny, all of Lexington. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Coggins Memorial Baptist Church, Growth for Tomorrow Fund, 1306 South Main Street, Lexington, NC 27292.
