Garnell Medlin

Freida Garnell Swing Medlin, a resident of Lexington, passed away peacefully at home in Davidson County on December 11, 2023, at the age of 84. She was born on October 9, 1939, in Iredell County, North Carolina to the late John Cicero Swing and Edna Lillie Robinson Swing.

A devoted wife, loving mother, and best “Mawmaw”/great grandmother, Garnell found joy in cooking, exploring new places through travel, and was a dedicated member of Faith Baptist Church in Shelby.  She spent her working years in the finishing room at Dixie Furniture, however, her greatest impact was and still is her unwavering matriarchal love, wisdom, and grace. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Clifford Swing, sisters Vivian Moody and Audrey Swing, and a grandson Joshua Hinson.

Garnell is lovingly remembered by her husband, Albert Wayne Medlin, her son Barry Medlin and wife Amy, daughter Sherry Medlin, brother Rodger Swing and wife Patty, grandchildren Lora Yocum and husband, Gilbert, Tyler Medlin, all of Lexington and Bayli Cook and husband Dakota of Denton. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Ethan Martin, Alton Yocum and Gracie Mathis.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 11:00 am in the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastors Barry Goodman and Cody Zorn. Visitation for family and friends will take place on Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home, as well as various other times at the family residence.
