Gary Stanley Cooper, Sr., age 79, of Cardinal Drive, Lexington passed away Sunday night (Nov. 6, 2011) at Hospice Home of High Point after an illness of six months. Private Graveside service will be held Wednesday (Nov. 9, 2011) at Forest Hill Memorial Park, with his son-in-law James Case officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Gary was born in Cross County, AR April 6, 1932 to Gordon Cooper and Annie Lawrence Cooper. Gary received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Central Arkansas and a B.S. in Pharmacy from Medical College of South Carolina. Gary was a retired Pharmacist with Veteran Administration Hospitals. He volunteered for many years as a Pharmacist for Crisis Control in Winston Salem. In 1954, Gary became a 32nd degree Free Mason as the youngest man in Arkansas to do so. Gary was elected as a member of the Descendants of Ancient Planters and America’s First Families; and he researched the Cooper Genealogy and wrote three books on family history. Gary enjoyed his dogs, hunting, fishing and gardening. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Fay Gordon Cooper, Sr.
Gary is survived by his wife, Mary Kathryn Cooper; two daughters; Genindle Cooper Case and husband James Arthur Case of Davidson, NC; Ann Cooper Thomas and husband James Walter Thomas of Raleigh, NC; one son, Gary Stanley Cooper, Jr. of Lexington; three grandchildren, Nikki Michelle Cooper, Adam Bryant Cooper and Audrey Caroline Cooper; one sister, Betty Jo Wood and husband Joseph T. Wood of N. Little Rock, NC.
