Gary Harper of Thomasville, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of the Lexington community, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Born on Friday, October 20, 1939, Gary lived a life full of love, adventure, and service, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by many.

Gary was the devoted spouse of Rose Harper, with whom he shared 66 joyful years. He was a dedicated family man who took great pride in his children and grandchildren. Gary is survived by his son, John Harper, and wife Beverly of Thomasville; his daughter, Gina Harper of Yadkinville; and his cherished grandchildren, Hannah Harper and Corbin Harper.

A man of many interests, Gary was passionate about traveling and had a profound appreciation for old cars. His commitment to his faith was evident through his role as an elder of The Church of Christ, where he served with dedication and compassion.

Gary was a proud veteran of the Army National Guard, where he exemplified the values of duty and honor. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become a successful restaurant owner at Chars in Lexington, a community favorite known for its welcoming atmosphere and delicious meals.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, John Benbow Harper and Nelle Elizabeth Woosley Harper; brother, Max Harper, and five sisters, Barbara Hiatt, Leota Barringer, Eva Nelle Sidden, Mary Ellen Dull, and Jonnie Lee Harper, whom he held dear throughout his life.

Family, friends, and community members are invited to gather and celebrate Gary's life at the Primary Event held at Westlawn Gardens of Memory, 6135 Ridgecrest Point, Winston Salem, NC.

A graveside service that is open to the public will be held 2:30 pm Monday July 7, 2025, at Westlawn Gardens of Memory, 6135 Ridgecrest Point, Winston Salem, NC, with Brock Shanks officiating services. Mr. Harper will be lying in state at Davidson Funeral Home from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm on Monday.

Gary Harper's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and community.
